Ben Hillyard is a musician/composer working between Melbourne and London. His recent activities in Melbourne include the cabaret musical TRASH, which was awarded Best Original Musical at Melbourne Fringe Awards 2005 and nominated for Best Original Songs at the 2005 Green Room Awards, incidental music for A Black Cat Kind Of Day in the Short and Sweet Festival 2005, the critically acclaimed In Record Time with Wes Snelling & Stephen Weir in Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2006 and orchestral arrangements for rock band Lotus Trojan.

Elsewhere in the world Ben plays double bass in Anglo-Indian group Parapar as well as writing and producing his own music in a wide variety of genres.

Ringtone #1 in A minor was written to give some representation for contemporary orchestral music, a genre woefully neglected in current ringtone culture. The tone is in inspired by a classic telephone ring with it's jarring sound and 5/4 rhythm (chosen by the first telephone manufacturers as the most irritating time signature) which develops into a more tonal figure before an attention-grabbing crescendo.
