Biography:
Leo Dale and Ray Pereira are two jazz musicians who have crossed each others paths over the last 2 decades while touring Australia. In 2000, when they ran into each other at the local supermarket and realised they lived a block away from each other a great friendship was born. They play together in the band Zebra Crossing with Valanga Khoza and get together once a week to write music.
Ray Pereira is a collector of rhythms and stories born from the rhythms. He is a traveller whose suitcase overflows with the temple drumming of Sri Lanka, the salsa of the barrios of East Harlem in the eighties, street rhumba in Cuba, the irresistible polyrhythms of West Africa and a myriad of experiences touring the world with Australian icons like Paul Kelly and Kate Ceberano.
Leo Dale was born to travel with music. From his early experiences around Australia and Asia as a boy soprano through many tours with jazz, dance and cabaret bands he has journeyed from the heart of the country to the core of its cities. His saxophones and flutes tell the story of this voyage through three decades and his melodies resonate with the openess of the outback and the immediacy of urban life. www.thezebracrossing.com
