Biography
Mandy Kane made a significant impact on the Australian music scène in 2003 when his debut single Stab entered the ARIA charts at 18. Two more Top 30 singles and a critically acclaimed debut album later, MK battened down the hatches to write and record new material for his second album, coming up for air only occasionally to give his new songs a test run at his live shows in his home town of Melbourne, and other east coast regions. The verdict? 100% resounding applause for EVERY song at EVERY gig, with MURDER IN THE DAYLIGHT shining as the firm favourite amongst his live audiences.
MK re-launched himself as an independent artist last year with a digital download single, (UK) Hanky Panky, which garnered regular dance floor play at several renowned UK clubs, saw him compared to the likes of David Bowie, Gary Numan and Marc Almond and compelled Karma Download, UK’s premier website for independent music to praise him as The New Prince of Rock. The bold, in-your-face track was picked up internationally by the regional & community stations that dared. The raunchy clip was played in Australia on Rage and Channel’s What U Want, where it reached number 25 on the 50 Most Requested Videos list. In the US and UK, it was added to Mobile Music Video Channels on Sprite and 02, respectively, and made Editors Pick on video
With endorsement from Arts Victoria, who provided funding towards his new project, MK is back and he is better than ever. As a precursor to his forthcoming second album, he has produced a six-track EP which leaves us with no doubt about his ideals, and more importantly, that he is a singer / songwriter with musical and lyrical substance.
In fact, the title track of the EP, MURDER IN THE DAYLIGHT was selected as a semi-finalist in the 2005 International Songwriting Competition, out of the 15,000 entries submitted from around the world!
And that’s not all MK’s talents have been discovered by a local filmmaker, who not only cast him in a privately funded short film, titled elevate (yup, the boy can act!), but has also assigned him to score the film, and write the theme song, Glitch, which is featured on the EP.
This collaboration has led to more opportunities for MK to be involved in other film projects, so stay tuned as the Mandy Kane story continues to grow. www.mandykane.com www.myspace.com/mkmusik
